[[underline]] Mary 1553 [[/underline]] Mary Daughter to Henry the 8th and Sister to Edward the 6th succeeded her Brothers in 1553-- The Queen's first act of authority was to give orders for taking into custody the Duke of Northumberland and most of his Family--The Queen afterwards confined the Duke of Suffolk Lady Jane Gray and Lord Guilford Dudley-- Northumberland pleaded guilty & was executed--The joy arising from the succession of the lawful heir was dampened by the zeal of Mary for the ancient religion Gardiner Bonner and Tonstal were not only reinstated in their sees, but Cranmer whose merits to the Queen during the reign of Henry had been considerable, was tried on pretence
