He desired permission which was granted of retiring to Rochester a Town near the Sea Coast-- The King terrified with this harch treatment renewed his former resolution of leaving the Kingdom-- He lingered however some days at Rochester in hopes of an invitation still to keep possession of the Throne but observing that the Church, the Nobility, the City, the Country all concurred in neglecting him he submitted to his melancholy fate--he privately embarked on board a Frigate and arrived safely at Ambleteuse in Picardy, whence to St Germains--Lewis received him with the highest generosity which contributes much to his honour-- Thus ended the reign of a Prince whom if we concider his personal character rather than his public conduct, we may safely pronounce more unfortunate than crimenal
