Henry the 1st Surnamed [[underline]] Beauclerc 1100 [[/underline]] Henry the 1st was Son to William the Conqueror: Robert king in Palestine when William Rufus was killed, Henry took advantage of his absence & was crowned King of England-- Robert on his return found himself deprived of a Kingdom which he considered as his birthright, his attempts to recover it were without success; he was however acknowledgd Duke of Normandy, but Henry soon rendered himself master of that Dutchy, Robert was totally defeated, and taken prisoner at the Battle of Tinchebray, on the 27 of Sepr 1106--Henry had the cruelty to cause his Eyes to be put out, and confined him for twenty years in Cardiff Castle in Glamorganshire, Henry married
