About 7 oclock this Evening Dr. Willis & Doctor Reynolds came back from Town, & by them We were informed that the Examination had not been gone through this day. Dr Willis had only been examined in part, & was order'd to attend the Committee again tomorrow. By my conversation with Dr. Willis I found that He had been very closely pushed & questioned by Mr. Burke & Mr Sheridan, that He was angry with Them & with Mr Sheridan particularly. Mr. Fox however seem'd to have gained on Him by the more liberal manner in which He had examined Him. He said none could behave more like a Gentleman than He had done towds Him on this Occasion, & that He had put the questions He proposed to Him with great delicacy-- During this report of his Examination, I must own I could understand the drift of some of the Questions which Mr Burke & Mr Sheridan had put [[underline]] having seen much since [[/underline]] I have been in attendance at Kew. From what Doctor John Willis had told me this morning I had in my mind put this as a good day, but in the Evening I learnt another history. Tho' the King had not been violent still symptoms of derangement at times throughout the day have appeared very marked. After dinner He sang & was hurried. [[underline]] Spicer [[/underline]] one of Doctor Willis's Men shewed me a little Slip of Paper, which the King had given Him this day & which He had wrote Himself.
