[[underline]] Monday Jany 5th [[/underline]] The King during this morning was not without, tho' at times very cross, much out of humour, & most impatient of advice from Dr. John Willis. In the Evening Doctor John Willis desired I would go into the King's Apartment. I found there Sir Lucas Pepys, who was playing at Cards with H. My. I was received as usual with much kindness, & He desired I would sit by Him. Soon after Mr. Charles Hawkins Enter'd the Apartment who relieved Sir Lucas Pepys at a game of Piquet with H. My., who was by no means in the best humour. He particularly directed his resentment against Dr John Willis who was sitting on one side of Him, & to Him He said many Severe things. As The King was speaking quick & with a loud Voice, Doctor Willis now appeared from the next room, attended by one of his men, & who placed Himself in sight & not far from the King. This seem'd to agitate H. My. a little, but it checked Him at the same time. Doctor Willis now made me a sign, and also to Sir Lucas Pepys to retire, which we continued to do without the King perceiving it. A short time after this matters became more quick &
