and this amendment continued throughout this day -- I was with H.My. from 7 oClock until 11 oClock at night, & I had reason to beleive that a real amendment had taken place, & that prospects had in truth become more flattering - His conversations were more continued to their subjects, & less interrupted than before -- He now waited for Answers, & replied with coolness & precision. This Morning H.My. saw the Duke of York - Sir Lucas ^ [[addition]] Pepys [[/addition]] was not ^ [[addition]] in [[/addition]] favor, & the intended support of H.R.H. proved ineffectual - The King complained to Me, that this Physician had been forced upon Him & He then dwelt on the treatment He had received from The Doctors, with much sensibility - I took this occasion to hint to H.My. that nothing was worse for Him just now than Agitation, & that an unremitting object of His Physicians was, by Every means in their power to keep Him quiet, as a measure absolutely necessary to his recovery; & that the trifles He complained as having been withheld from Him, & the occasional restraints He had experienced had been measured which had been adopted [[underline]] solely [[/underline]] to this point, & that they would all cease in a very short time. H.My. listened to Me with Attention, & said He knew that quiet was Essential, & He promised to Endeavour to be so. He has been composed during the Evening, & He detained Me until He retired to his Bed -- at 11 oClock.
