Dr Home's prescriptions for a young Person growing crooked - April 14th 1806- To wear tum Stays, stiff enough to support the person (To have half Boots to support the ankles, - & that for the left foot, to have the sole thickened by 1/4 of an inch in the inside gradually levelled off so as to throw out the foot on the other side. this if the ankle turns) To bathe in the Sea three times a week in the afternoon, except at particular times, & to put it off till that time is quite over. - To go to bed early, & get up late, so as to shorten the day. - To lie down one hour after dinner upon the floor, or some hard flat surface, in order to take off the weight from the back bone. - To cloathe her Loins warm & to wear drawers. To sit upon a hard flat chair, or a board fitted to one. To avoid sitting long in one posture never to take any Lesson of Music above half an hour, & no two days with the light on the same side. - To avoid writing or drawing but when so employed let it be at a standing desk. - To be very regular in her meals, to drink Wine
