210 Ear Ache 8ber 10th 1810 In the event of a recurrence of Inflammation in the Ear the object most to be attended to, will be to guard agst the formation of matter, - which, as well as releiving the paint - will be best done by the application of 2 or 3 leaches on the protuberance of the Ear & behind in the hollow of the Ear, & keep up the bleeding by holding the Ear over the steam of hot Water poured on Camomile ^ [[addition]] flowers [[/addition]] or Poppy heads, - according to the extent of the pain, - repeat also this steaming every 2 or 3 hours, dropping into the Ear at the End of each steaming a few drops of a mixture of [[deletion]] [[unclear]] [[/deletion]] [[addition]] Laudanum & [[/addition]] Oil of sweet almonds (making it warm by putting the bottle in the Water before the application) it would be better to do this with a lengthened peice of Cotton [[unclear]] [[deletion]] up & ]]/deletion]] [[addition]] as low [[/addition]] down the Ear as possible & carefully twirled round, so as to imbibe the moisture, for shd there be any unnatural discharge from the Ear, it is very material to prevent its lodgement, & that discharge ought to be carefully wiped out in the manner above mentioned. -
