A prayer translated by Pope from Francis Xavier, & given to me by H.R.H Prince Augustus at Rome [[underline]] xber the 20th 1792 [[/underline]] Thou art my God, sole object of my love: Not for the hope of endless Joys above Nor for the fears of endless pains below Which they who love thee not must undergo. -- For me & such as me thou deign'st to bear An ignominious cross, the nails, the spear The thorny crown transfix'd thy sacred brows While bloody sweats from ev'ry member flows For me in torture thou resign'st thy breath; Embraced me on the cross, & sav'd me by thy death And can these suff'rings fail my heart to move? What but thyself can now deserve my love? Such then as was, & is thy love to me Such is & shall be still my love to thee. To the Redeemer, Mercy's sacred spring My God, my Father, Master of my King.
