By Mr. N -- Rome Janry 14th Oh Thou sweet nature couldest thou but maintain Thy uncorrupted, sympathetic reign And ease fond Lovers of that world of care Arising from disdain & sad despair. The wound she gave would every damsel feel Inflict the fortune, & the patient heal! Would all bright Eyes, too carelessly that rove Prove both the pain & antidote in love; Then could I boast a mind of anguish free Then would Augusta sympathize with me . But Ah! reflexion, the complaints recall! The object I adore is loved by all. And if in nature sympathy there be She would not [[underline]] only, [[/underline]] sympathize with me: Too cruel thought; for who in love can bear: Of a divided heart to hold a share? Love came from heav'n a balm to human woes Their Souls attach'd in unity to close
