[[/underline]] having no children he was succeeded by his relation the Duke of Bavaria under the name of [[underline]] Henry II, [[/underline]] this prince was fortunate rather than great, he confirmed the established Government of his predecessors & died after a long & happy reign -- on the death of this Prince [[underline]] Conrad Duke of Franconia [[/underline]] succeeded to the disputed empire of the west under the name of [[underline]] Conrad in 1024; [[/underline]] his reign was past in quelling the rebellious princes of Germany, & the insufferable usurpations by the Popes; when [[underline]] Conrad II [[/underline]] died in [[underline]] 1039 [[/underline]] he left behind him the reputation of a just, generous & magnanimous prince, & was succeeded by his Son [[underline]] Henry III surnamed the Black; [[/underline]] Henry was bold, polite, & fortunate, he died in [[underline]] 1056 [[/underline]] leaving his son [[underline]] Henry IV surnamed the Great [[/underline]] only 5 years old under the tuition of his Mother [[underline]] Agnes [[/underline]] a woman of strong talent, & gt. sagacity in [[underline]] 1072 [[/underline]] he took the reins of government in his own hands quelled his rebellious subjects of [[underline]] Saxony [[/underline]] & success attended his army, but a new storm from Italy threatened his throne, & shook those of all Europe originating
