But thro' thy hard heart, froze in rigid repose No pitying stream of warm tenderness flows. 3 The bright star of Morning is hid from our sight And the wide wilds are lost in the blackness of night Yet again shall that Star his gay lustre resume And the Sun's golden splendor shall banish the gloom But the dark Night of Pride Oh what ray can remove That Night [[underline]] which o'ershadows the Sun [[/underline]] of my love. The glitt'ring colours of the day are fled Come melancholy orb that dwell'st with night Come, and o'er Earth thy palest lustre shed Thy deepest shadow, & thy softest light. To me congenial is the gloomy grove When with faint rays the sloping uplands shine, That form, those pensive rays alike I love When sadness seems in simpathy with mine But most for this pale orb thy light is dear For this benignant orb I hail thee most
