It was a just saying of him who broached the truth to the World, that time can only be estimated by the rapidity of human events, & that the Man lives longest, who passes thro' the quickest succession of action in the less possible given time; tho' this rapidity of motion may delight the natural of man. [[deletion]] [[unclear]] [[/deletion]] Man like the traveller who stops to recover his strength, so must the Soul of the inquisitive while it is fed, also get rest. What is ^ [[addition]] the [[/addition]] history that cannot be abridged, & even multiplied; that may satisfy the avidity of our nature for the rapid acquirement of facts; but we must still feel desirous of obtaining the spring & motive of human actions. It is then on the abstract we must pause, & upon which we must recruit our spirits too much exhausted by the continual pursuit of novelty.
