When the warm Nymph by pleasure's boundless thirst Leaves Nature's prudent path - she looks my first. While mid the rival fair, her arts excell She's call'd my second & she bears the bell When grown my third she rolls unchristian Eyes The gay adore [[underline]] her -- but the [[/underline]] grave despise. My first's a thing that ev'ry face can shew Whether there's brains above, there's this below - My next is known, or should be known by all Without it aid the props of language fall My whole is frail, demands the gentlest care And [[underline]] meets a kind protection from [[/underline]] the fair. My first abounds in leaves which fair appear And lose no verdure by the falling year, My next ordain'd in humble sphere to crawl By all tho' scouted, yet shall feast on all. -- My whole's the dread reproach of learned lore The Wise oft bear -- the Blockhead never bore.
