I had seen that it was not what I liked; what, to polish the engaging simplicity of untutored nature, to clothe her with the artificial exterior of modern accomplishment, To document the native heart of innocence with that behaviour which the perverted sense of society has rendered arbitrary, & to risk the natural goodness of the heart in the discipline of refined manners, manners that may perhaps engage & play round the fancy, yet to me they appear intimately allied with Hypocrisy & design; no, I could not admire the plan, nor could I approve the education; undesigning, open honest ingenuous nature, a feeling Heart that will lead to mild & yeilding manners shall be that of my Daughters, & may they never know what is called worldly wisdom
