Go foolish love I quit thy power Thy couch of many a thorn & flow'r I wish thee well for pleasure's past Yet bless the hour I'm free at last. But yet methinks the alter'd day Scatters around a mournful lay And chilling ev'ry zephir blows And ev'ry stream untuneful flows; No rapture swells the linnets voice No more the vocal groves rejoice And e'en thy song sweet bird of Eve With whom I lov'd so oft to greive Now scarce regarded meets my ear Unanswered by a sigh or tear. Alas is all this boasted ease To lose each warm desire to please? No sweet solicitude to know, For others bliss or others woe? A frozen apathy to find A sad vacuity of mind, # hostile to the general interest of the community than the Villain who lives by plunder, in the same proportion as the moral qualities of a Man's heart are superior to the Guineas he carries in his purse.
