Heav'ns will she knew was for the best design'd; She knew its wisdom & was all resign'd Accept then gentle shade this humble lay - 'Tis all the warmest gratitude can pay. How lov'd when living, how lamented fell The gen'ral tear may speak, the gen'ral praise may tell. --- To Hope Oh ever skill'd to wear the form we love To bid the shapes of fear & greif depart, Come gentle hope, with one gay smile remove The lasting sadness of an aching heart. Thy voice benign Enchantress let me hear; Say that for me some pleasure yet shall bloom! That fancy's radiance, freindship's precious tear Shall soften, or shall chase misfortune's gloom. But ^[[addition]] come [[/addition]] not glowing in the dazzling ray Which once with clear illusions charm'd my Eye Oh strew not more sweet flatterer! on my way The flowers I fondly thought too bright to die Visions less fair will sooth my pensive breast That asks not Happiness, but longs for rest.
