into 4 quarters quarterly 1st and fourth a Castle or, with 3 towers for Castille; 2d & 3d 3 Lions gules for Leon, with 3 Lilies surtout for Anjou. the orders are the Golden fleece the military men of St James, Calatrava, and Alacantara. -- The arms of Portugal are Argent, 5 Escutcheons, azure, placed Cross wise, each charged with as many besants placed Salter wise, and pointed sable for Portugal, The sheild bordered gules, charged with seven towers or, 3 in cheif, & two in each flanch The crest is a crown or, under the 2 flanches and the base of the sheild appears at the end of it, 2 crosses the 1st fleur de Luce, vert, which is for the order of Avis. and the 2d petée, gules, for the order of Christ; -- the orders are, That of [[underline]] Christ, James, Avis, [[/underline]] and the order of Malta.
