equal in magnitude to the Earths Globe; 3dly -- the gravitation of the Water in the opposite side of the Hemisphere is less than the gravitation of the Earth itself, therefore these waters opposite to where the Moon is vertical will recede from the Earth's center. hence it naturally follows that wherever the Moon is vertical the Ocean will rise & form tides in Rivers and that it will be the same in the place diametrically opposite thereto. -- This Theory is confirmed by observation for there is a double tide every 25 hours at all places where the tides are on the face of our globes. The mutual attraction of the Earth and Moon would soon bring them together were it not for the centrifugal force which they acquire by moving round their common center of
