I have read "that where there is not the consciousness of having done a virtuous action ˄ [[addition]] there is no virtue [[/addition]] that is, without the knowledge that what we are going to do, both before, and at the time of action is virtuous that action is not virtuous, Because that is not virtue which we are not conscious to ourselves is such; For as any action that is ill designed is really ill, so no action is really virtuous, but that which we intend shall be virtuous when we perform it, and consequently, know to be such when we have performed it." This I do not fully agree to, or comprehend why it should be so . --
