Heat one End of a bar of [[underline]] Iron, [[/underline]] and you will see a pale white, colour begin which as the Bar warms the colour advances, keep it still in the furnace this colour is followed by a fine yellow, next comes Purple, Blue, and Violet in regular order as the Bar grows hotter. -- of it be desired to keep these colours on the bar at one time, plunge it into cold Water, and they are fixed.-- As Iron is of infinite service to Man, it is very common, and serves a number of purposes.
