the 2d house a crescent charged with a fleur de Lys, and so on of the other taking care to have them [[underline]] of a different [[/underline]] tincture. -- The ornaments that accompany Escutcheons denote the birth, dignity, or office; those most in use are often sorts; viz, [[underline]] Crowns, Coronets, Miters, Helmets, mantlings, Chapeaux, Wreathes, Crests, Scrolls, [[/underline]] and [[underline]] Supporters. [[/underline]] -- The [[underline]] Helmets [[/underline]] of the kings, & royal family Are front, open faced, and grated, and the number of Bars serves to distinguish the bearers quality, that is the dukes and Marquises are different from the kings in having a bar exactly in the middle, and two on each side, whereas the kings helmet has six bars. The other grated helmet with four bars is common to all degrees of peerage under a Marquis The open faced helmet without bars, denotes Baronets, and knights. The close helmet is for squires, & Gentlemen. Their position is also looked upon as a mark of distinction the grated helmet in front belongs to sovereign princes, the grated helmet in profile belongs to peers. the helmet standing direct without bars and the bearer open to Baronets &c
