And intend very wisely that sloth was a crime As tending to wear out both legs at a time Sir, by dancing the blood is enliven'd, and warm'd 'Twas for dancing alone that we mortals were form'd And all People should live (as physicians declare) With one foot on the ground, and one foot in the air.- Honour'd Sir! to your justice we make our appeal Think what greif and alarm your petitioners feel When they hear ev'ry day the reports that are spread Reflecting alike, on your heart, and your head; When your foes dare assert in the face of the nation. " That you, Sir, at the devils express indignation " With malicious intent, and for some private ends " Have refus'd to give up your best room to your friends " Tho' they still would consent, as they did once before " To break half your glasses, and chalk all your floor " And regardless of ev'ry fatigue for your sake " Keep yourself, and your servants & neighbours awake " Or if for a moment you happen'd to doze " Kindly break thro' your slumbers, & tread on your toes.
