The jealousy which springs from mistrust of oneself has something affecting & tender in it -- but that which arises from suspicion & mistrust of what [[underline]] we Love, offends -- because it humiliates. -- [[/underline]] My memory forms a contrast with what I see [[underline]] here, which recalls you incessantly to my regrets. [[/underline]] I am transported, disordered, confused, by this single thought "come back to me, you will find me as you left me" -- I stretch out my arms towards you, -- as if yrs were opened to receive me -- I feel inclined to leave all & come to you -- methinks all nature ought to smile on this project, that she ought to guide & protect me on my road -- the road that leads to you, ought to be easy to find; -- there is but [[underline]] one -- it is the road to happiness. -- [[/underline]] Let us forget the present, let us turn away our view from a fatal future, -- the past only is ours, it is alone out of the reach of fortune, -- all men place their happiness in hope, let us seek it in remembrance.
