to alleviate the bitterness of my fate by contemplating the effects my duty would produce -- the stroke was upheld which was to dissolve all the scene, and lay my last comfort in the dust.-- With much sound sense he suffers trifles to discompose him & with a feeling heart, his manners are rude -- with a great talent for humour, he seems to have no enjoyments -- discontent overhangs his kind, & when he might lash with a laugh those follies in mankind which are too minute for serious censure, he scrutinizes them with exactness, & condemns with asperity
