Indeed the house has been for the last ten days a scene of illness as have most families near us. I do not remember for some time such trying weather. I hope the comforts of Bersted and the sea air preserve Your Ladyship and Mrs: Smith from colds. I am sorry my friend the Earl is indisposed. He cannot however be in better hands than those of your excellent self and the truly hospitable possessor of Bersted. Remember me most particularly and kindly to Mayo.
