The intelligence of the six Span: Ships seems to denote war. I suppose we shall immediately detach a squadron after them & Ld. Hood will have ye. command. This will weaken the fleet at Torbay. Yet if they do not give hostile orders to the Commander of the Squadron to be detach'd, in short to attack the Span: Sq: whenever they fall in wth. them I think they will not prove themselves so good a war Cabinet as I could wish. But if these orders are given, They should follow the blow in Europe by ordering his Lordship to sail wh. with similar directions_ & when out of sight of land, or still farther to detach the W. India Squadron_ & that it may appear at home he is only gone out to exercise the fleet.
