For Mrs [[underline]] Clayton [[/underline]] 14 [[underline]] Hague 25 April [[/underline]] Knowing you so well dear Mrs Clayton, I think I can adress myself no where so well as to you, to do people service, your inclination agreeing so well with it, I think I am oblidged to doe my best to Justify [[underline]] Dr Duglas [[/underline]], who I should be mighty sorry to have less well thought of, for what has lately happn'd to me, & I must say, yt he has alwais doubt'd about ye condition I was suppos'd to be in, since I came to Calais, which is very probable, since he never gave me ye [[addition]] least [[/addition]] encouragement to beleive it, I shoud be very glad when occasion serves you would be so good as to answer yt to persons who will may be, be ill natur'd enough to lay hold of any thing yt may be hurtful to another. I hope by ye time you will have been so good as to have forgot whatever you may have dislik'd in [[underline]] Dives's [[/underline]] conduct, & yt you will in time join with me to do her service when she will want it: I certainly have all reasons imaginable to be satisfy'd with her service, & should be very sorry to part with her, if it was not her own choice, so shall do whatever lys in my power, to make [[underline]] Chevenix [[/underline]] able to keep her so as yt she may think her self happy. I am alwais mighty glad when I hear from you are well, & hope absence doth not make you forget your Friends, among which I certainly pretend a Place. If I am so happy as to go into England ys summer, it will be a very great pleasure to me to see you, & to assure you, [[underline]] & Mr Clayton [[/underline]], by word of mouth of my sincere friendship.
