The death of Richard of Cornwall was followed by an Interregnum which some historians date from 1259, when he began to reside in England. --Germany was now a prey to petty wars, robberies & murders-- The most remarkable events during this period, are, The League entered into by the Nobility for their mutual defence, The Celabrated Hanseatie League formed by the Principal Commercial Towns for their protection against the encroachments of the great Lords. The Establishment of the Electoral Colleges & the exclusion which the great officers gave to the other Princes of the Empire in the Election of the Emperors. 1273.
