973. He was surnamed the Sanguinary on account of the blood spilt under his reign. In Germany several Nobles rebelled, but he reduced them in a short time. -- Denmark & Bohemia felt his power, & Rome by new Crimes, offered a Theatre to his justice. Crescentius revived the project of restoring that Republic, & caused many cruelties to be committed; but the Emperor marching into Italy chastised the Rebells. He died at Rome whilst preparing to be revenged on the Greeks & Saracens (who had defeated his Army in Calabria) in. 983.
