Draught of a Letter to his Royal Highness Prince William Henry signifying his Election into the Order of the Garter. George the Third by the Grace of God King of Great Britain France and Ireland Defender of the Faith &c: and Sovereign of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, To our dearly beloved Son Prince William Henry, Greeting: Whereas our Royal Progenitors the Kings of England have, in all Times since the Institution of the Most Noble Order of St. George called the Garter by our Most Noble and Victorious Ancestor King Edward the Third, elected into the Fellowship thereof, such Princes & other eminent Persons as have, for the Greatness of their Births, accompanied with Heroic Virtues been thought worthy thereof. And Whereas at a Chapter held by Us, and [[undereline]] the rest of [[/underline]] the Knight Companions of the Most Noble Order of the Garter in our Palace of St. James's on Friday the 19th, day of April, in the twenty second Year of our Reign [[underline]] ^ [[/underline]] [[addition]] we [[/addition]] have thought fit to elect and chuse you our dearly beloved Son to be a [[underline]] Fellow and Companion of the Order of the Garter and [[/underline]] [[addition]] we [[/addition]] do herewith transmit the George and Garter, [[symbol]] part of the Ensigns thereof to be deliver'd to you by in regard that Ralph Bigland Esq r Garter Principal King of Arms whose duty it is to perform this Service, is prevented therefrom by Reason of the Great Length of the Voyage, and the duties incident to his Office in this Kingdom, which Ensigns we hereby Will and Authorize you to wear, assuring you when it may conveniently be don you shall have all other Ceremonies and Additions incident to the said Order fully perfected. In the Interim by our Power as Sovereign of the said Most Noble Order, We do further authorize you, together with the George and Garter, to wear the [[symbol]] Star and Glory of Silver with St. George's Cross embroider'd within a Garter upon your Cloak or Upper Garment, as likewise to [[underline]] use the Garter [[underline/]] [[symbol]] If any other Parts of the Order-to be named.
