The periphery of the circular plate on the right hand side is cut into a ratch wheel with a stop playing in the teeth to lock it by means of a spring pressing against the stop, & at the reverse end of the stop is a small knob which by being press'd it unlocks the ratch wheel & roller the same pressure of this knob throws the stop into a second spring ketch & holds the stop out of the teeth of the wheel, & gives liberty for the roller to turn either way at pleasure & on the other end of the the spring ketch is a second small knob which by pressing the small knob on the side it lets the stop fall again into the teeth of the wheel On the right & left hand sides of the mahogany frame are 2 Iron frames coverd with brass plates (wherein the axis of the above roller turns) from withinside these frames by the assistance of a winch's turning a long spindle the width of the Table with a pinion at each end & 2 brass wheels one one each side communicating to 2 racks fix't at the bottom of 2 rests by the turning of the winch it winds out both the rests & by a spring pressing a stop in the teeth of the brass wheel on the right hand side it is stopd. at pleasure from returning & by pushing a small knob thats under the rack it unlocks the wheel & another spring with its ketch holds back the stop out of the wheel & gives liberty for the rests to return by the assistance of the winch (as before) These rack rests are hollow & compos'd of 4 peices of Iron in each 3 of which are rivetted together & at right angles & the 4th (or remaining) side is screwd,, into the top & bottom in order that it may occasionally be taken a sunder. Out of these square trunkated rests are drawn 2 solid rests with little square holes cut in the sides at about 3/4 of an Inch distance & at the extream ends of the trunkated rests are 2 spring stops (as before) which fall into the holes of the solid rests & lock them in order that they may not return, these spring stops have knobs at the reverse ends & by pressing these knobs down throws these stops into 2 other springs which holds the stops back (as before) & by pressing 2 other knobs on the sides of these springs it frees them & they again fall into the holes. at the extream ends of these solid rests are fix't 2 circular brass boxes, in the center of which are 2 pivet holes to carry the 2d. mahogany roller & parallel to the former with 2 firrels & 2 circular plates one at each end. In the right side circular brass box & on the arbour of this mahogany roller is a ratch wheel with a spring & stop to lock the roller from returning & by pressing a knob [[catchword]] at [[/catchword]]
