A Description of the Machineary in Her Majestys Tambour Table. This Table is compos'd of a mahogany frame with 4 hollow legs with a mahogany box'd frame over it about 4 Inches deep whose top is like unto the lid of a box the front whereon the lock is fix'd has 2 bolts one on the right handside & the other on the left which latch into 2 wide pieces when these bolts are unlatch'd & the lock unlocked the front of the frame falls down & suspends by hinges also the lid or top is turn'd over which shews the upper machineary. This Table is so contriv'd as to raise the upper part higher or lower at pleasure by 4 racks which move up & down in a 4 sockets in the aforesaid legs these racks communicating to a train of 7 wheels & a pinion 5 of which wheels & the pinion are in an Iran frame on the right hand side which range horizontally & extend from rack to rack. 2 of the most remote of these 5 wheels dip into the racks too these 2 remote wheels are added 2 long spindles the length of the Table with the 2 remaining wheels one to each spindle which communicate to the 2 racks on the left hand side in the sami manner as those on the opposite side & consequently to the 4 racks in the 4 legs & to the arbour of the aforesaid pinion which goes through the Tron plate of the frame to the outside is a wheel of 3 Inches in diameter too it is added a second of an Inch & half & again a third of 3/4 of an Inch on the arbour of this pinion on the under side is a ratch wheel, & on the other ind of the arbour is a square to receive the winch which winds up the top part from the lower frame 12 Inches higher than the frame (or to regulate its height at pleasure) to this ratch wheel a steel stop plays in the teeth occasioned by a spring which continually keeps the ratch wheel locked and prevents the racks when rais'd from returning into the legs, but if desired it's only paessing down a brass knob fix'd on the reverse and of the stop at the front of the frame & the ratch wheel is unlock'd & may lower the upper part at pleasure by returning the winch. to the top of the aforesaid racks are riveted 4 Iron plates with screw holes in them to screw the racks to the under board of the top frame (on box) wherein is fixed the upper Machineary which consists of 2 mahogany roters parallel to each other & turning upon their own axis on each and of these rollers are brass firrels & brass circular plates of 3 Inches diamr,, to keep the coork in its place the outer roter being fix'd in one situation [[catchword]] though [[/catchword]]
