Your Melancholy Letter [[unclear]] safe to my Hands at Nine a Clock & caused me a great deal of Surprises as I had understood that Lrd Lakes Complaint was only a Common Cold. I did not fail to inform the King of the Even as Soon as possible & He regrets the Loss of so Valuable an Officer very much, & the Henever gives a Decisive answer to any applications for a Pension, He did receive the message about the poor Deceased's Daughters very Graciously. I am sorry that You have witnefs to such a melancholy Scene, which is always distressing, but must be much aggravated by the loss of so Old a Friend, You must however feel Comfort in Knowing that in His Profefsional Career & Public Situation He stands so High in the Oppinion [[addition]] of the World. [[/addition]] & Happy for Him & those who loved Him to leave such a Character behind Him. I hope you will not let this Event dwell too much
