Title

Letter from George Canning to William, Duke of Clarence, written at the Foreign Office

Date Created

29 September 1823

Creator

Canning, George; Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs

Description

Canning writes in answer to William's suggestion to appoint a specific person to a vacant role [Foreign Messenger?]; unfortunately Canning was not able to carry out William's request because he received it too late. Moreover, as the next turn of appointments belong to Lord Bathurst [Henry Bathurst, 3rd Earl Bathurst ] and Mr Peel [Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Baronet], Canning will not have the chance to nominate anyone for a while.
