Description
William sends, enclosed, a letter to deliver to Lord Whitworth [Charles Whitworth, 1st Earl Whitworth, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland]. He asks for as much information as possible on the Catholic question; William does not know Sir [John] Hipperly's opinion on the matter so he is not sure if they agree. He believes, though, the central problem in the question is the existence of the Pope. As the [political] situation on the Continent seems to be favourable, William hopes the Prince Regent, the Emperor of Russia, the King of Prussia and the Prince of Sweden, will be able to convince the Catholic countries to get rid of the Pope. He encourages discussion of the matter with Lord Whitworth.
