Letter from Rear-Adm. Sir Samuel Hood to General Jacob de Budé reporting that the British fleet had been refitted but that he was not yet at sea, commenting on the continuing delay in the sailing of the convoy and on his broken shin, which prevented his attendance at a dinner at Kingston for Sir George Rodney, and remarking on further forthcoming entertainments at Spanish Town and on his activities.

bear no later date, than the first of the month, yet I think they would contain interesting information, beyond what the Preston brought, as no letter I received by Capt Leslie, was written after the middle of April, except form my wife, who is out of the way of knowing how the world goes. Sir George Rodney is just returned to the Formidable and having sent my Captain, with a string of memorandums for Sir George’ information, and to say I am perfectly ready for sea whenever he pleases, I shall drop my pen till he comes back. Captn Knight is returned & Sir George Rodney has honored me with a visit—he still talks of my going to sea in a day or two, as he has done for several past — but I perceive his mind is embarrassed and that he will not leave this Island till he hears from England — The Ramillies I find is to go with the Trade to Bluefields tomorrow, where I conclude she will remain till the end of the month, but really, this is mere conjecture of mine — The Pacquet is coming down, I can therefore only hold the respect assurances of my being, with great regard & esteem my dear General Your ever affectionate and faithfull Sam: Hood
