Description

...Sir George Rodney seems to be at a loss what to do, and is whiling away the time in hopes of a dispatch from England.' Hood was grateful that his injury prevented his attendance at the dinner, and informed Rodney and others that the subscription money collected for it should have been spent on the sailors: 'the mistaken vanity of the one, and the inordinate passion for feasting of the other [Gentlemen], would not allow the advice I took the liberty of giving to take effect'.
