Barfleur New York Octr. 30th. 1782 Sir [[underline]] Duplicate [[/underline]] Sensible as I am of the very honorable and flattering proof your majesty has been graciously pleased to give me of perfect confidence and regard in placing Prince William under my care, I am not left so of the great importance of the charge, or how very unequal I feel myself to it, but what I want in utilities, I will endeavor most insidiously to make up by disgence and attention to this Royal Highness benefit. My eye shall constantly be kept upon his royal highness, and to the utmost of my power, will be watchful not only to encourage every lendable pursuit, but to check & restrain whatever I may see amips; in so doing, I am very sure I shall in the most effectual manner, act up, to your majestys wishes, and such instinct ions: as I may receive from Rear Admiral Digby, and if any example on precept of mine, should move useful to your majestys most amiable and truly beloved son, it will be the pride of glory of my remaining days.
