Lord Hood to Philip Stephens, reporting on his movements and the actions he had taken in despatching various British ships to look out for enemy squadrons, and enclosing copies of despatches and orders he had sent [possibly some, if not all, of the preceding documents, and certainly including 0744, and possibly 0743].

latter through the Turks Island passage, and here with I transmit, a Copy of my order and letter to the Commander of the Fury; On the 9th. the Sybil returned, and reported a single frigate [[underline]] only, [[/underline]] at the Cape, and that upon the Career; At the same time I was joined by the Actson, Alarm, & Diamond Frigates, and the Blood hound Sloop, the latter I detached to [[unclear]] the Havanna, as I could hear nothing of the Spanish Squadron: The Actson I sent to ye. Northward of the Island Mayaguara, & between that & the Caycos, the alarm to cruise North from the Island Zachio, in the mona passage, from five to fifteen leagues distance: the Diamond to [[unclear]] the Harbour of St Johns on the Island of Portorico, where I had been informed, two frigates with a great number of Mercha Vessels under convoy (which sailed from France, on the 6th of September, and parted with ye remainder of the Convoy off martinique & were bound to Cape Francois) had arrived; and the Sybil I stationed off the old Cape: having shifted my Rendezvous from thence a little to Windward of Monte Christe, which gave me a better chance for intercepting the Enemy's Ships should they come through either of the Island passages; I sent you also for their Lordships information a Copy my order to Captain Pary of the Actson, and I gave a similar one to the other Commanders, so that I trust no squadron of the Enemy's can escape my seeing it.
