Lord Hood to General Jacob de Budé, sending thanks for one received and his wishes for de Budé's swift recovery from a fall while hunting, and remarking on the difficulties caused by disputes between Prince William and Capt. Napier and his feelings that, while considering Napier 'a man of honor' [sic], he was not a suitable companion for the Prince.

[[underline]] Duplicate [[/underline]] Barfleur Port Royal Jamaica Feby. 8th. 1783 My dear General I put my name to acknowledgments for some of your obliging favours on my arrive here the 5th. soon after which I received a Box of letters from to Windward, that were brought from England, in the Nymphe, Anson & Novr Pacquet, some written in Decr amongst which was your very affectionate one of the 5th. with one enclosed from Prince Frederick for His Brother William Henry — but I do not find anything decisive had taken place, whether we are to have peace or the continuance of war. I have ventured my sentiments already upon that subject, therefore will not add a word more. I cannot sufficiently express what I feel, from the sad hurt, you received from your fall in hunting and sincerely hope you will recover the effects of it sooner than you expected; Rest is absolutely necessary and painfull & irksome as confinement is, I trust you ill patiently submit to it.
