Title

Letter from Princess Augusta to Lord Arran

Date Created

7 July 1818

Creator

Augusta Sophia, Princess

Description

Thanking Lord Arran for sending biscuits for the Queen: she liked them a lot and would like to have the recipe so that the cook at Frogmore House can try to bake them.
The Queen had an attack of spasm, but she is now better; the Duke of Gloucester [Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh] came to visit and might remain for a while. Augusta reports on the Duchess of Cambridge [Princess Augusta of Hesse-Kassel; assumed the title when she got married to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn in May 1818] and Kent [Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld; assumed the title when she got married to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn in May 1818]: everyone likes them. Today they will also meet the Princess of Meiningen [Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, William's future wife]; Willliam has been praising her virtues and good qualities.
