Downing Street April 12th 1803 Copy My Dear Sir There is to be a meeting of Cabinet tomorrow at Lord Chatham's where I propose mentioning the subject of our conversation at Bromley Hill. I think it incumbent upon me to acknowledge that after the best consideration which I have been able to give to the proposed arrangement, my opinion respecting it remains unaltered; but if I could justify the recommendation of it upon public ground, the [[deletion]] only [[/deletion]] one honourable course I could pursue would be to [[unclear]] in the sacrifice it would require & to put myself intirely out of the question, & this I should do with the utmost readiness & the most perfect satisfaction. I will only add, that the objections to what has been suggested respecting the speakership of the House of Lords appears to me to be insurmountable under any circumstances; and I am convinced that they would appear so to you upon further consideration. I have here expressed only my own sentiments, & I am very sorry that it was not in my power to write to you earlier in the Day, With those of my colleagues you shall be acquainted either tomorrow afternoon or on Thursday morning indeed, if I hear nothing to the contrary from you, I will endeavour to be at
