Title

Letter from Frederick, Duke of York to Prince William, written at Hanover

Date Created

4 January 1782

Creator

Frederick, Prince (1763-1827)

Description

Frederick agrees with William in disapproving of their brother George's connection with the Duke of Cumberland [Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn] whose example no one should follow. Frederick urges William to apply himself in his profession to avoid ending up like their uncles, the Duke of Cumberland and the Duke of Gloucester [Prince William, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh] who, for being ignorant of the profession they chose, are now at home unemployed.
He believes William will spend the rest of the winter in New York, preparing for a busy, future campaign.
