William is contented with Coates' account and the Bailiff's answer to his question about the farm. He disapproves, however, of Elphick and Coates fighting over the matter of the sheds for the straw-yard, which both of them agreed on to build - but now Elphick objects to it. William wishes to be updated on the ongoing operations of drainage.
