(Copy) Answers. [[note]] 14th. [[/note]] The Marquis De Bouille’ being made to understand by Col. Cockburne that a part of the Money in the Chest was his property, and upon his declaring upon his Honor [[underline]] such [[/underline]] it was returned him amounting (by the Report of the French Officer who told me he was present to 3 Thousand Johannis’s. [[note]] 15th: [[/note]] The Marquis De Bouille’ the day after the sales divided the Money’s amongst the Captors. The sums claimed by the Commandant was paid him. [[note]] 16th. [[/note]] The Marquis treated the Officers with every degree of respect & attention, & indulged them with the liberty of going where they pleased. [[note]] 17th. [[/note]] Any Officers desirous of going with the Soldiers were permitted. [[note]] 18th. [[/note]] I never had an access whatever to Col. Cockburne but what my duty obliged me, the remaining Officer’s of the Garrison were in a similar Situation, therefore never heard any declaration whatever from him, respecting preparations at Martinique. The Garrison did not receive any Additional Orders. [[note]] 19th. [[/note]] The Troops I believe had five rounds of Cartridges each.
