Copy of a letter from Rear-Adm. Lord Hood to Rear-Adm. Joshua Rowley further to 0738, reporting that he had intended to 'take my Stand' off Caicos island but has since learned that the French ships do not tend to return that way, describing his current strength of ships and requesting Rowley to send him all the serviceable ships of the line from Port Royal, and noting that all the French troops in America are currently in Boston for embarkation.

Barfleur, at Sea, New York NW. 120 Legs. 27th. Novr. 1782 Sir,, I believe I omitted to tell you in the Letter I had the Honor of writing you last Even.g. that I had ordered a Frigate to Cruize and look out for any ships from Adml Pigot, or you with intelligence, off the Caycos Island, as I there intended to ake my Stand, when I wrote you by the Guay Trouin from New York, but upon conversing since with Officers who have served much upon the Jamaica Station, I find that though the French Ships of War, with their Trade from Cape Francois, go out into the Sea through the Caycos Passage, yet seldom or ever return that way back, but go to the Eastward of the Silver keys, & make the Westend of Porto Rico or Cape Samana. I confess myself ignorant of the Track the French Ships generally take among [[catchword]] the [[/catchword]] Rear Adml. Rowley &c.. &c.. &c..
