My dearest Son. My first occupation this Morning is to return You thanks for You very affectionate Congratulations on my Birth Day. I feel this mark of Your attention most Sensibly, & do not deny that the passing the Day without seeing You made it still more Melancholy to me than it would have been otherwise. _ Here I must stop, & say like You [[underline]] Prudence [[/underline]] forbids my Pen to continue the Subject. My good wishes attend You wherever You are & my attachment will ever be the same whether Present or Absent no one being more affectionnately attached to You than Your affectionate Mother & Friend. Charlotte [[note]] Q.H. the 20th/ May 1809. [[/note]]
