that altho the original ground of Opposition applied equally to Dr Simmons & to Dr John Willis, it was wholly free from any Personal Objection entertained by Herself or any of Her Family to Doctor J. Willis. The Queen does not hesitate upon this occasion to repeal this declaration with respect to Dr J. Willis, & to state the high opinion which She entertains of His Character & of His Professional Skill; She is also willing to admit that She considers His regular attendance upon the King to be wholly divested of many of the obligations which would have operated strongly against that of any other Individual - Nevertheless she feels that She would be wholly unworthy of the Confidence which was reposed in them by the Country, when she was entrusted with so sacred & important a Charge, if She could be so regardless of an Engagement entered into with the King, as not to yield with the utmost Reluctance to a Proposal; which requires an Infraction of it, yet more positive than that to which She had already Consented, in deference to the urgent Advice & Solicitations of her Council, under the Impression made by Circumstances of which the melancholy extent would not be foreseen, when She contracted the Engagement in question, & under the Pressure of increasing Difficulties & Embarassments. The Queen has more than once declared that She gave Her Council full Credit for the pure Motives, the principle of Duty & Attachment by which they are guided, & She does not deny that this Conviction, & Her earnest wish to admit the Advice of Men who are influenced by such honorable feelings tend in a great degree towards weakening Her Scruples upon the present Occasion, H. M. has also in a recent Communication noticed the obligation under which Her Council may consider themselves placed to defer in some
