Having just received an account from Madrass that Sr Thomas Strange is likely to return to England, I am requested by Sr John Newbolt to apply that He may be advanced in His Situation, as perhaps a Younger Person than Himself being named, may prove disadvantageous to Him. The present Lrd Chancellor as well as Lrd Erskine, always befriended Him, & will I am sure give You a satisfactory account of Him & His Abilities. I beg pardon for this trouble, but as these places [[deletion]] ar [[/deletion]] can not be long without being filled up, I thought it at least but justice to Him to be early in my application.
